Hi. I've been playing electric bass for about 5 months now, reading TB most of that time, so I thought I'd do an intro.
Though new to the bass, it's been coming on for a long time. I played string bass a little as a kid - the grade school orchestra/no lessons thing. Later, I started playing harp and did that quasi-seriously for awhile, ie didn't study but gigged with some pretty good people who helped me learn. But my favorite part was basso continuo, and I was always somewhat jealous of the theorbo next to me.
But my music interests took a radical forward shift, chronologically speaking, and I got tired of dealing with gut strings, so I took the opportunity to finally submit to my obvious lowend-lust, and I'm loving it. I've taken a few group lessons, done a couple of ensemble classes in blues and rock, and am currently taking private lessons. My goal is to get to some level where I can make music with other people: a few of us from work are planning on doing some rock, just for fun, and I'm working on getting sufficient chops to not embarrass myself at a blues jam.
Musical interests: blues, blues-rock, funk, metal, and, at some point, just for fun, I want to see if I can make any old theorbo stuff sound like anything on the bass. Not mimic a theorbo, but see if that music can be interesting coming out of a modern bass.
I'm really enjoying reading here and look forward to being part of the community.
Gear: cheapo beginner Ibanez, but looking for my next bass. |
