asking a question about an ampeg bass head

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a question and hopefully some one can help me. I have an ampeg b2re bass head. After a seventeen years I got back into playing. I play in a dance/polka band. The speaker I have is the band leaders which is an old sun fifteen speaker 4 ohms 100 watts. The head is rated 8 ohms 250 4 ohms 450. The question I have is this, what would be a good master control setting? Years ago I had a lab series combo and that was pretty much what i used. This new equipment ( mixing and matching) does not make to much sense to me. Any help would be great

My only suggestion would be dont do it at all

450 watts running into a cab that is only rated for 100 watts, would most likely blow it. Either that or have serious distortion untill it finally does blow, get a cab that can handle the 400 watts or get a head that puts out 100 watts.

I would upgrade the cabinet with one that can handle the power, but if you MUST use it then make sure the preamp never gets close to clipping and don't turn up the master volume past '3' and then hope for the best.
