Back to the bottom end! Picked up a Yam' from CL and here I am

So it's been, what, 12+ years since I had to first sell my gear due to me joining the military, then moving, getting jobs, having kids, etc... (you've heard that story before) and finally I took the decision to come back to the bottom end and play bass again.

I looked for something cheap but good for the price, a beginner's bass for about $100 and found a Yamaha RBX170 (or what looks a lot like one), with a little amp (a Crate MXB15) and a cord.

I picked up a Tuner at GC for a few bucks, as well as a bag, and I've been practicing since coming home, for 6 hours straight.

Weirdly enough, after all these years, it's coming back fast.

I *think* the strings are hosed and this little amp sucks, but I managed to sound ok, and now the tip of the fingers of my left hand and starting to tingle and getting numb and the joints are starting to feel like they were over-stretched.

I guess that's normal, after 6 hours of exercises.

I have a few questions about the bass, I guess I will ask them in the bass forum, but the pickups don't look like on the Yamaha Web site, you cannot see the 8 round ends of them (whatever you call them) but instead just a black cover.

Maybe it's an earlier model? I bought it from a kid who bought this bass about 2 years ago at Guitar Center in Tempe, AZ. He did not take good care of it, there are scrapes and nicks, but it sounds pretty good for the price.

I am giving myself 1 month to make a decision on if I want to keep playing and in this case I'll probably pick up a decent bass (probably a Fender Jazz) and a good amp. If I change my mind, I can always resell the gear for the same price plus a litter of kittens.

Time to go crash in front of the TV, I'm tired.
