Hailz to all you TB'ers. Been lurking here for quite a while, learning & catching up, finally registered and posted just this week.
I started on bass way back in 70's high school (Overseas! In Asia!), playing a truly poor pea-green/white binding Ibanez semi-hollow body 4string, through a TOA tube PA amp (made in the Peoples Republic of China!) driving a 2x12 (using P.R.C. 12" PA cones!) monolithic no-name cab...I swear, the drivers on that cab came pre-blown... anyway, the mushiest, crappiest imaginable bass rig. For it's day. After that, was in off-and on- again garage band action for the next 10 years or so, only stood in on a few gigs with no personal bass rig anymore, just a couple mediocre guitars & small amps to amuse myself with.
Then, career, marriage, motorcycles, travel, etc. dominated my time and I stopped playing.
Then late last year, I found myself with some free time and a little cash on my hands, went to a session at a drummer-friends place, next thing I know I've been bass-bug-bitten again. So I search, I find TB, I lurk, I shop CL, I put an interim rig together while I get situated and caught up.
Current:
2000 MIM Jazz, black w/white pickguard, flat Chromes on it
Eden RS115 combo
EBS Multi-Comp
Korg Pitchblack
It's actually a pretty sweet practice & rehearsal rig. But, that setup has satisfied me for, wotzitbin, a month? That long?
As I am no kid (but still in reasonably good shape), portability & weight are priorities along with tone, so I'm now on the path to a MROD system (and I am lovin' that/those threads, great ideas and owner feedback there).
I just recently got a killer deal on a G-B Shuttle 6.0 head, so that's on top. Now I need to find the right cab(s) for it...
I'm leaning towards Schroeder: a 1212, a 115+, or maybe a one of the BMF series 1212, 1210, I dunno...gonna have to go audition these (lucky me, there is a dealer with floor stock right here in town!). The same dealer also carries Bergs, so those are on the short list. I'm considering the G-B neos and Avatars too, but as a second tier. Still haven't decided if I should go micro or mini...as in, configure it as (for example) two mini-12's and take the second cab only when needing the extra oomph for the venue/material, or to go with a more fully-capable single cab like the 1212, but carry the extra weight every time it's moved...I'm open to advice on this, right up until I commit at purchase.
The juiciest bit of news is that I just ordered, as in, ordered
this morning today, my Human Base Roxy B5 (in natural). Yep, I too was in thrall after watching Ed Friedland's review of this bass, and all research I've done has only confirmed what we've seen & heard In Ed's review.
Was informed by Allen at BassStation this afternoon, that Praxis Instrument has
already finished the build (same-day service!) & sent it cross-town to him, he will have it and send it up to me tomorrow, I should have it by middle o-next week!
I will take pictures, and post a review/report...I am stoked!
After the cab is acquired, this -ought- to quell those GAS urges. At least for a while. I admit I'm looking at the VT Bass Deluxe that's coming in a few months, and y'know, a good octaver would be nice...aaaiigh!
Cheers!
