Sign in to disble this ad
for me im not sure yet, my music teacher, tells me since my first lesson that i would be a great proffessional, and yes i love the instrument with all my heart, but i also think like, if i have a family can i really support them as a mucisian??????? bass as a hobby has only one problem for me. and that is i dont get to play 24/7 like i wish i could..... anyways.... i'd like to hear everyone's opinion.

Here is an old joke...

What is the difference between a pizza and a musician?

A pizza can feed a family of four.

Hullllllo Princess! It's me!
I've also heard... that is, read this: Keep doing what you love the most. It will pay off. Monetarily. Am I a case in point? I took bass up some years before first marriage and kids. I'm onto my second family. The longest time I ever put the bass aside was for two months, when I had a particularly long-houred job that lasted two months. So now I'm forty-one, and finally got to take part in the recording and release of an album. Darn good one, too. The band now gathers material for a second. Will these recordings sell well enough to make us self-sufficient? Time will tell. I have high hopes.
Family does come first for me, but bass runs a very close second!
I've rambled a bit. I hope what I've said is of use.

thats good. but for me its a little more difficult than just doing what i love, if things were all that way i could live where i wanted, marry who i chose to, and do what i enjoy. there are alot of expectations on me..... my plans are real estate till im about 25, then open a bakery, and at 30 a restraunt...... well, ive got 14 years to make all those dreams. lol..... bass, just has to find a way in to my life like as a major ....thing.

If you're considering playing bass for your life path start now and go help every bassless performer you can. Learn what they need under them and give it to them. Keep a dozen cards in your pocket with your name and number on them. Turn nothing down at first. It's all about making the other performer sound good, and once you have a reputation for making others sound good you are off to the races.
