BASS! How low can YOU go?

Crap headline I know, but beats the hell out of "Hi - I'm new"

So, a brief 'how I got here'.

Been playing keyboards and synths etc since a very young age (and still suck). Always had a love for all things string. Had numerous acoustic guitars over the years until recently when I swapped an old Tokai Custom Super Strat for a YAMAHA RBX270 4 string. And so far, so good. Am loving the resonance you get from the deeper sounds, and am hoping it will prove a damn sight easier to learn to play tan my 6 stings.

As I've only had it a week, I'm looking for any tips on teaching myself how to play said bass, as so far, most have been "just listen to your favourite tunes and copy them". I don't know weather this is indeed the best way to 'self-teach' bass, or weather its a case of trawling the net for bass tabs and doing it that way.

Also, if anyone lives in the Leeds area of West Yorkshire and knows a reputable bass tutor, I'd very much appreciate the contact.

Enough rambling for now.

Dan
