Been lurking a while... and then I realized there's an intro forum =O!!!

Hi, I'm a beginner bassist from Singapore (small island in South East Asia for those of you who don't know about it). On most forums I go by the handle Composer Of Requiems, but that's too long for the talkbass forums apparently.

I just started electric bass not long ago; dabbled with a bit of bass for small shows in school. Always wanted to take it up seriously but didn't have much time; I had school and I've been playing in orchestra for many years, and do a lot of drumming- I'm mainly a classical musician and rock drummer.

About two months back, a friend of mine mentioned she wanted to learn bass so I took the chance and signed up for group bass classes as well. I've just finished high school and my country has a mandatory two years of military service for guys, so I'm serving in the Army now and that means I have a whole lot of spare time at nights when I can't play non-electric instruments, so this is a perfect chance for me to pick up the electric bass!

Bought a second-hand Yamaha BB2004 at quite a nice price with my savings, and started off... I did refinishing and other DIY work with my drums before, so of course I'm starting that with bass as well now. Doing up a fretless (it's probably finishing soon!) in my spare time and I think I'll probably end up spending too much for my own good- I have this GAS problem.

Found this forum while looking up info for my DIY bass refinish/defretting project and it seems pretty awesome, so I lurked, then I joined, then I started posting a little, and here I am! Well, there was more that I wanted to type into my introduction, but I've forgotten what I wanted to say, so I'll stop here~

You'll see it when it's done (about a month more, waiting for pickups!)

Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.

Dood,
we're fellow Singaporeans stuck in the clutches of doomzxzxzxz (NS). Which camp you at? My camp forbids electric instruments and I ain't got no moolah to get an acoustic bass, so I'm picking up soeme music theory in my free time.

I'm a newbie too, started roughly 1year.

Welcome to TB!

It'd be great to see pics of the process you're going through while building your bass. Don't underestimate the desire of your fellow TB'rs to see and hear about what their colleagues are up to.

Good luck!

P.S. You might want to check out the links in my sig. for more great TB info that may help you along the way.
