Hey, new to the forum. I'm pretty new to the bass too and I signed up to hopefully get some pointers. See you around.

I remember watching my friends who had one play and thinking it was so much more complex than at first glance. I'm 22 now, when I was younger my brother got the electric guitar. He didn't play it very often so I would try to pick it up now and then and it just didn't feel right to me. At the time I was interested in the drums, it was the rhythm and beat that I usually appreciated most in music. Then I saw some live shows my friends put on and their bassist was surprisingly good, I didn't even know a bass could produce these sounds and the potential became more apparent. It looked like it was fun as hell to play and had my interest. I picked one up for a short while and it was the physical contact with the instrument that got me hooked. As primitive as it sounds the vibrations of the bass just feel right and I imagine the experience for professional bassists being so much more intense than the audience can taste.

We had a music program in our high school but from the other instruments offered nothing else quite stuck like the bass so I didn't bother. I wish I would have taken it for at least the theory but I've been making up for it on my own. Went off to university to pursue a physics/math degree, things got busy so the bass kept getting put off./lifestory

So yeah, I moved in with a roommate who has both electric guitar and bass and he let me play his. Bought my own a couple months ago but since last November or December there haven't been many days when I've not had the bass in my hands for at least an hour, usually more. Like I said, I'm still pretty new to actually playing the bass and most of my time has been spent getting familiar with how the instrument responds and practicing the techniques to get myself comfortable playing.

If anyone can recommend some good songs or tabs to start with it would help, I've got some now but I'm open to suggestions. I'm into all types of music so anything you got.

edit:
Maybe I should clarify, I've got a 4 string electric bass. Noticed a lot of you play different types so there you go.
