Hi guys thanks for letting me in!
I have been playing guitar since the dawn of time but about a year ago I moved sideways lost a string and am now playing hard rocking new metal bass guitar for a cool band i've liked for ages!! Enjoying the switch and have taken to it well (once i stopped trying to strum rhythms!)
I bought my bass on ebay a left handed yamaha 5 string pinched my dads old school laney bass head and ohm cabinet and was away!!! However as with everything i had to begin crafting my own tone and the gear I had did not suit the music i'm playing so shortly before our first gig I went amp shopping.
I came away happy from the store with a tiny little thing - ashdown labs superfly which has some great sounds in it. I've acquired a 1x15 peavy cabinet with no markings but sounds good with the other amp powering it. The Superfly simply does not have any volume!!! the laney head is old but has 150watts that kick you in the nuts when you turn it up - comparatively I cannot hear the superfly cut through at all over the drums and guitarists. It does kick ass when I DI into a desk, or if its being used to record, it's just not got the beef for a backline?
I have never had to deal with bass rigs etc and really am struggling to sort this out - i read on this very forum that just one output could rip your face off (paraphrasing from a poster) but I've seen no evidence of that. I am concerned there is an impedance mismatch so I was considering getting a new cab - a 4x10 or alternatively a 2x10 and a better 1x15 but it seems pointless if the amp is underpowered in reality? A few people have asked similar questions but I was hoping to get some advice on which cab(s) would be a good match.
What would people recommend? have i wasted a load of money here?!
