Brand new aspiring bassist...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey gang. I was directed here from another (completely unrelated) forum and was told it was THE resource for all things bass... which is good because I am a complete noob.

I have been playing music (sax player) for a good 17 years or so, but I have always wanted to expand into musical types besides the ones where the sax has been pigeonholed. It didn't take a whole lot of thinking before I chose the bass, as that is where my ear always went when listening to just about any kind of music. So, after 15 or more years of delaying, I finally took the plunge and bought an intermediate bass to learn on. Now when I say brand new I mean just that - one lesson before having to leave the new toy at home while traveling for work! So as you might imagine I have at this point worked with my right hand ONLY getting the string muting and picking thing down. When i get back to the house it'll be back to that grind.

Anywho, look forward to seeing what's going on in the rhythm section (finally).

Thanks guys. I hate to have my time at the forum with such a long wait before I can actually pick up my bass again, but such is the nature of my job. I have already found a LOT of useful info here, and am hoping by the beginning of next month to put all this head-cramming into practice. Till then I have the trusty tenor sax here (it is in the place the bass will occupy on future work trips) for a jam session in Chi-town, so all is not lost.

Thanks again for the warm welcome and I'll be asking stupid questions in no time!

Wow - Stumbo - thank you SO much for putting this all in one place!!! I've played guitar for about 35 years, but bass only the last 2.5. I've learned quite a bit so far, but find all these resources in one place - you rock. Thanks. This gives me some of the direction that I've been looking for lately. Happy holidays to you and yours!

Steve
