confused about ohms

Sign in to disble this ad
hello talk bass people, I have a question?
I purchased a bass rig with a 700 watt head and it simply cannot keep up with my guitar player's 100 watt rig I have two cabinets and they are peavy 4-12" speakers and one that is a 15" black widow cabinet they are both @ 8 ohms and I am wondering if this is the root of the problem that I am having? on a side note we play heavy metal and I feel bass guitar sound is a very important aspect of the sound and it is almost non-existent.
is there anything that I can do to my setup or am I lookin @ getting a new 8-10" cabinet @ let's say 2 or 4 ohms?
I am actually the drummer in this band but the bass rig is mine
but as far as live shows go we can mic it or go D.I. and then everything is fine but it's just, for band practice it is very frustrating please help me if you can if you need more specs on my bass rig you can e-mail me and I will provide whatever info. you may need
thank you anyone willing to take the time.
Matt

There is a very good thread in the FAQ section in the Amps
forum on Ohms that should answer a lot of your questions.

What Amp model?

A 700 watt rig with 2 8 ohm speakers (they connected together
will draw current at 4 ohms nominal impedance) is
a lot of juice.

That being said, a 100 watt Marshall stack is very loud.
That should be pointed directly at the guitar players ears
and turned to 10. When he can no longer hear at all, he
won't notice you have turned him down.

Honestly, a guy that has to play at 11 with 100 watts at
practice is a wanker, not a musician. Tell him to turn down
and get in the groove and mix with the other musicians in the
band. Or find another guitard, I understand there is one or
two extra out there.

Your bass player can upgrade to 1000 watts, but whats the point?
