Considering Getting into Bass Guitar

Hi everyone. I found this forum doing a search on bass guitar. I play keyboards, and have been using sampled bass and guitar sounds to make music. However, getting things just right is to time consuming. I figured I'd be better off just learning how to play the bass and the guitar.

I was considering buying an acoustic bass guitar and a classical guitar to do some recording. Because of the difference in spacing on a classical guitar and a bass guitar, I had to make a decision. Either play bass or play guitar, because switching back-n-forth could probably be confusing.

Then I had a thought. Is it possible to re-string a bass guitar so that it can play higher notes? I then came across the idea of a piccolo bass. This truely opened my eyes up to the possibilities of the bass. If I got two 6-string basses, I could leave one regular and tune the other with piccolo strings. I would only have learn how to play one instrument. This would open up my music alot. I hope participation in this forum will help me realize my goal or at least help me better understand the possibilities of the bass.
