... and commanded me to take up bass again, and to learn to play walking jazz lines.
I haven't played bass in earnest for the last 20 years or so... and not much music in the meantime either (dabbled in guitar and sax for a bit, but family & job don't leave much free time for music). So it seems it's going to take a while to get re-acquainted with the instrument.
By the way, I never really got the hang of walking bass lines back when I was playing bass. Never got serious with my music theory, or learned the notes all across the neck, which is kind of a non-starter. Folly of youth...
After doing some lurking here in TalkBass, I went and bought the 3-in-1 book by Ed Friedland. Got to learn those notes, for real this time. We'll see later which book to buy for walking bass lines, once I get the basics in place.
As for instrument, I have an old Squier Affinity P that will have to do for now. The neck may be a bit too wide for my aging wrists, so I guess I'll be posting some G.A.S.-related questions in the "Basses" section momentarily
This site looks great, very friendly. Talk (bass) to you soon!
