So I have been a drummer and percussionist for 30 years. I can read music and am interested in a variety of styles.
However there is one bass player that has always knocked my socks-off with his tone and sound and that is Greg Lake of E.L.P.
What would I need to learn how to play that style and what equipment would I need to buy to get that ballsy-clangy bass sound that he used during the song "Pirates" and during the six minutes of blues jam in "Fanfare For the Common Man"?
I've read that it's an 8? string bass and has rotosound strings played with a pick. Also I think it read Alembic. Here's a link, and thank you for any constructive advice on how to play the instrument!
