Hi folks,
I'm a long-time drummer (35 yrs) and sax player (20 yrs), but I've always wanted to play bass too. I'm nearing the end of a PhD program in poli sci and my graduation gift to myself is a Yamaha TRB1005 which should be arriving next week.
Years ago I saw John Patitucci and Dave Weckl play with Chick Corea's Elektric Band. Weckl is so good, he makes me never want to play drums again (though I keep trying!). And I have probably started way too late in life to play bass like Patitucci, but there's no time like the present to get started. Anyway, the fun is in the learning.
I also take a lot of my inspiration from every Steely Dan album from Aja on. Their bass/drum pairings are always just phenomenal.
I have some questions about getting started on a 5-string, but I'll ask those in a different thread.
