Just thought I'd take a *moment* and introduce myself to the world around me.
Music ignored for now because it's quite an extensive write-up aside from the background information you would expect, I'm a second year university student studying physics and electrical engineering. I enjoy literary discourse, writing, fencing, and so many other lovely, pretentious things. I'm a prattling, inept, and pseudo-intellectual masochist, and I'm even in love with the phrase.
Music given the love and affection it deserves, I sang in a school choir for about four years. I've also played guitar seriously for about two years, starting with an Ibanez Gax-70 connected to the world's cheapest amp (the Frontman 10g) though I recently dumped $g to upgrade to a decent acoustic, so I finally own a guitar that doesn't consign me to the corner of shame. I love the sound of a well-played chord, a really euphonic twang, it gets me giddy. Last year, I thought I'd diversify a bit in the hopes of reimagining my guitar method and altogether becoming a better musician, bought the cheapest bass I could get on Craigslist (a Fender Squier P-Bass with the Rumble 15, both in good condition, for $100. Not the world's best setup, though economical for a learning tool), and never did too too much with it. I mostly worked on fundamentals on/off across a few months, growing a feel for the instrument since my primary was still guitar. With summer and my infinite slacking, I've had more playtime for instruments, and I'm finding myself more and more in love with the bass. I hit the ceiling on
this site pretty quickly, and want to improve my technique beyond the basics. I think bass will still be a secondary instrument to guitar for me, but other members of the sort-of-bandish group (sort-of-bandish because we've had three very long jam sessions that were the best I've ever been involved in, we only started to know each other and play towards the end of the semester) alternate instruments pretty regularly to change the sound dynamic, which means I'll still get chances to carry the bassline with my aesthetic. I stumbled into this site looking for new ways to play, tried out palm muting/thumb plucking, grew a monstrous bloodblister on the side of my right thumb (though I love the plonky sound, it will be worth it), and here I am to introduce myself in the interests of evolving my style. Any other really swank things I can learn quickly to supplement my playing?
Now let's have us a song and dance.
