Extreme Newby Seeks Improvement

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello Everyone,
My name is Jake. I am a visual artist from California. I played guitar (awkwardly) for four years before finding bass. I am extreme newby. I only purchased my first bass today but it feels... right.
Although I am new I am extremely motivated towards improvement.
Music has always been a huge part of my life and I'm a certified metal head. :P
My favorite bands are Opeth, Tool, Between the Buried and Me, Meshuggah, etc... you know, weird artsy metal for weird artsy people like myself.
Is there a place I can go to find exercises and lessons? Also can I start up a thread where I update daily bass playing videos and/or audio so I can receive feedback and tips on my playing?
Thanks everyone,
Jake

When I first started playing bass, it was because my friend bassically begged me to start. I instantly got into it, and for the first couple months i practices 5+ hours a day.
All you really need is spare time to fool around. If you can only play by tab I'd recommend getting a program called guitarpro. Good luck on the bass journey!

gday,

im a newby bass head aswell, also a metal head............ into DD, LOG , KsE , TooL , MetallicA etc etc..........

unfortunately i prefer playing in this genre on the 6 string............. my band im in now, we play modern rock, and switching over from guitar has been helpfull. i found once i looked up a few lessons on triads and chord configurations, i immediately went to work on my guitarists song and wrote an awesome bassline which compliments the guitar perfectly, while standing on its own and yet not taking over the song..............

so point being that lessons are valuable.
