Fender Bassman 300 distorts constantly

I just bought a new Fender Bassman 300 all tube head and it is hard or impossible for me to get a clean sound out of it.I am using a Fender passive Jazz Bass and can't seem to clean it up,any suggestions?

Check into new preamp tubes, and what are your EQ/Gain settings.

I just bought it three days ago,I doubt it's the preamp tubes.

Well, what are your settings? Have you used different cables? Just because you just bought it doesn't mean you don't have a bad tube. Anythings possible.

You might need to burn in the tubes for a few days. My Fender Blues Deville (all-tube amp) sounded much better after a few days use (3-4 hours per day).

Maybe but it sounded clean when I first turned it on then it gradually got distorted.All the settings are flat and eq is off.

Sounds like cold solder joint maybe.... does it do this at all volumes or is it just when you turn it up? ..

sure does sound alot like a tube to me. yes, solder joint is possible,, but definitely, take it back to the store! you have about ten days for swap, depending on store.
