| Finally after 10 years of denial...

I've been playing the guitar for about 20 years. I used to be pretty good at it, the first few years when I practiced all the time and played in jazz band in HS and college. I can still hold my own and people compliment me on my playing.
I just don't find it much fun anymore, as I can't really sing or write songs (believe me, I've tried) and I'm more of an accompanist... I make other people sound better, because I do have good rhythm and "musical telepathy" for want of a better term. I realized 10 years ago that the electric bass was probably a more appropriate instrument for my natural abilities, but I've just been in denial, busy with work and kids, and I've pretty much fallen out of the music scene.
Well, I'm sick of not playing music, and nobody needing guitar players because everyone and their dog plays guitar (usually poorly). Bass players are in demand and I think I'll make a damn good one if I devote the practice time.
Anyway, just thought I'd say hi to everyone. I've already found a lot of valuable info here, and this seems like a friendly bunch.
If anyone has any pointers to share for a guitarist picking up the bass, holler at me.
I'll be ordering a SX SJB this week and a decent practice/quiet-gig amp next month. Then I'll start saving up for a real amp (the Bergantino IP112 and EX112 seems like the best deal in the long run). Then a better bass if the SX jazz isn't cutting it for me.
Cheers! |
