Greetings,
I love these forums. I have been reading here for a few weeks now, and I have found the information within these pages to be quite helpful. I am grateful to the people who have taken the time to share their knowledge and experiences.
About me:
I'm into a variety of music, but jazz and blues are my favorite. I love Jimmy Smith, Grant Green, Lou Donaldson. I love James Brown, The JBs. and more of the like. I like plenty of other things as well.
I've played bass off and on for about 4 years, along with guitar as well as drums for about 10 years. I still love to play drums, but I've been pretty dedicated to bass though for about the past 8 or so months and I think this is really where it's at for me.
I spent the longest time studying the book "Fretboard Logic" back when I was 21 first learning how to play a guitar. Well I learned quite a bit, but never made the connection to the theory side of things, plus never really got a handle on playing bar chords and learning notes of the neck beyond the 3rd fret. I learned some songs to play acoustically, but never really got much further than that. I did have all the patterns from the book memorized though, which really helped me out when I decided to play bass.
I actually learned to play a drum set pretty well and have been doing that until recently when practicing drums became impossible for me in my living situation where it's just not practical to make a bunch of drumming "noise".
Well anyway, that's why I started to play my bass again, because I needed to have something that I can actually practice! Well I am very grateful for that, because I remembered everything that I had learned before, and I took the time to learn a little theory, learn some songs, and eventually I started to remember notes on the neck. And then one day it all just snapped for me! I was like WHOA! Ever since, I have been hooked.
I am looking forward to making some friends here at the talkbass forums.
Well enough about me, off to the forums!
JM
