Good evening/morning/afternoon/night/whatever it is where you're at

Finally got around to registering here today (well, night for me). Been lurking for a while but figured that being able to throw my *cough* personality in here would be a good thing.

So, yeah, introduction time! I'm currently 34 years old, set feet on the planet in the Netherlands, spent 2 years in the USA getting from Florida to California, and am currently living and working in Indonesia, where I've gotten all grown up and respectable on account of having a wife and a 4 month old son.

My usual line of work is in IT, I'm a freelance programmer, systems guy, and general troublemaker... but I'll try not to cause any

I'm a relatively new bass player, I actually bought my bass well over 3 years ago, but due to life, the universe and everything I just did not have the time to do much learning. Life did it's usual karmic account settling some time ago and I've been actively ... well.. "messing" with my bass for about 6 months now. It's still pretty hectic so there's no real practice routine yet, but at least I've gotten to the point where I can (mostly) get my fingers to do what they need to do, and my ears can (mostly) figure out a given bassline in a song. I even dabble in coming up with my own bass lines from time to time, assisted by a guitar playing friend who comes by every now and then to jam. We're short one drummer, though....

Gear wise, I don't use anything expensive. I own a nice Cort Action 4, which I picked up locally for less than $125, new. I did replace the factory strings with some heavier gauge Fender strings to get a bit deeper/mellower tone, and have done some poking and prodding at it to get thing set up to where it "feels right". Amp wise I've got a really cheap no-name 25W little thing, because I usually use my macbook as the amp along with Garageband. For jamming, you can rent studios here by the hour for under 10 bucks, and they usually supply all the back line gear you can think of, so for at home the above works fine

I'm not gigging, but it's something that's on the "one day I will have time for this" list.

Oh, yeah... couple more things. First, I'm an (apparently...) incredibly cynical and sarcastic person with a twisted sense of humor and a moral compass that acts a lot like that weird compass Jack Sparrow dicks around with in them movies. I'm also liable to ask either really stupid questions, or ask for more detail until people want to strangle me. Comes with the territory of being a computer geek, we love knowing all the nitty-gritty.

So.. Hi! I'm Ben. Who are you?
