Hey all! Greetings from SoCal.

I came across Talkbass.com when researching for the purchase of a new bass. Everytime I googled something bass related, posts in this forum kept appearing, so I dove right in.

I've been playing bass since High School (Early '80's) but purely as a hobby, and pretty much by ear. After years of playing the usual stuff, I have decided in my early 40's to learn some Jazz. I have a few 4 stringers (Ric 4003, MIK P-Bass and an acoustic). I wanted to try a totally different sound, but I have never played a 5 or 6 string bass or a fretless. So I bought a 6 string fretless. I figure I'll be able to see what works and what doesn't. 'Nothing ventured' as they say...

This forum is amazing. I have been able to get answers to all my questions over the last few weeks without ever having to post a question. I've learned all about 34" vs. 35", Flats vs. Rounds vs. Nickels, and everything one would ever need to build a Frankenbass.

The tone on this forum seems to be one of courtesy and mutual respect. While there seem to be many 'Clubs' in here, everyone seems genuinely helpful.

I look forward to learning from the 'knowlege bass' in this forum, and am hope to avoid coming down with a bad case of GAS.

We really need to do a better job of screening TB'ers...
