Greetings from Austin, TX

Hey everyone. I am a guitar player (~8 years) and have played bass on and off the whole time. I was recently asked to play bass in my friends band so I have gotten more into it the last few months. I don't miss guitar much and bass is a better fit for me.

I live in Austin, TX (moved here about 4 months ago). Austin is awesome and there is so much music here you couldn't listen to it all if you tried. For any other Austinites I reguarly see Red Volkaert's band "Haybale" at the Continental Club on Sundays so maybe I'll run into some of ya'll there.

I'm a big Stevie fan so naturally I think Tommy Shannon is awesome. I am also a huge Stanley Clarke fan (bought five of his albums today on vinyl for like $20 total so it's been a good day).

I have a cheapo Ibanez bass I defretted myself and put flats on. I don't play it much these days because it is difficult to learn new things on (no fret markers either, not even dots on the side of the neck). I mainly play my friends Squier Bronco Bass. The Bronco is a pretty sweet little bass but I'll be buying a J bass of some sort (most likely Squier) before long.

I also build tube amps as a hobby. Current guitar amp is a 1W plexi-style amp that is absolutely brutal (much louder than expected, cops have come twice...). I have been playin bass through a tiny Samick practice amp and a 30W crate combo. I'll be building a nice tube amp for bass however over the holidays (thinking bassman 135 style).

I joined the forum because every time I would do a Google search about anythign bass related it seemed like I allways ended up finding the answer here, so I figured I would join. Hello everyone and thank you for the resource.
