Hello everyone, 74jazzbass here, new to the board. Yes, I own a 1974 Fender Jazz Bass, it has been my sweetheart since 1982 when I bought her used at the old 8th Street Music store in Philadelphia. My daughter has named the bass - "Mocca" due to the walnut color.

Anyway, I have been "playing in the pocket" since 1981. I bought my first bass in 1981 at a Sam Goodies record store for $60. It was a global. I bought it because it was $10 less than a six string guitar! AC/DC was the only band I would listen to at the time and Malcom Young was my hero.

A year later I walked into the same Sam Goodies record store and saw the posters for Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast". I picked up Maiden's EP - "Maiden Japan" as it was $3 less than the new album and I had never heard the band, but I liked the art work. I went home and was promptly blown away. I was back the next day to buy "the beast"!

I spent some time in the early 80's playing in a metal band with my brother. We did some originals but mostly covers of AC/DC, Maiden, Priest, Ozzy, Dio, Quiet Riot, and others. Off to college I went and the bass went under the bed while I learned to drink.

Fast forward 20 years and I am playing bass in my church's praise band: "Gifts of Praise". This band saved my... musical ability! I have been surrounded by some great musicans and I explored styles I never would have touched before. I have also grown up and listend to tunes of different music, from blues, to jazz, to rock.

Through my love of Ice Hockey I joined another band: "The Fredos". We are a cover band working on original stuff. We play a wide varity of stuff from the late 60's throught the early 90's - The Beatles, the Stones, Petty, The Band, Pink Floyd, ZZ Top, The Refreshments, Elvis Costelo, Queen, the Cars, Springsteen, Rush, and Dire Straights just to name a few.

I am dad, a husband, and a working professional, but playing the bass is my escape!

That's terrible about 8th street music which was on 10th street last time I was there lol. I bought my first non-beginner, non-loaner bass there in 2005. Great store.

8th Street music now has a store just "over the border" in Pennsauken N.J. I've ordered from them online a couple of times and I get stuff from them like in two days without paying extra for shipping. I'm in Chester, BTW, used to live in Aston Township , if you're familiar wth that particular hamlet.
