Guess it's about time I did the intro thing here.
Retired old guy...woodworker since before you were born...made my first guitar in 1958, second one in 1959. Bought a 5 string sometime around the late '80's...it got "borrowed" before I ever played a note on it.
Have a G&L on the way now.
Now that I have a little time and a few extra Rubles, I plan on building a stable of 4 strings. Fortunately I have damn nearly every woodworking tool known to mankind, and I actually know how to use a few of them.
Originally from Haywards Heath in Sussex, England.
So, where ever it may be that you are from, a warm "Hello" from me to you.

Good for you....I plan the retirement thing once I recover from two college kids financing (#2 a senior).

I'll raise you one....I went for the 5 string Warwick.

Sounds like you should check out the Luthier section and get going on your first project bass.

Welcome to TB.

Way ahead of you...I just love the luthier section. Man there is a ton of super good stuff in there.
I'm afraid my patience is getting the better of me...just bought an Ibanez here on TB. No doubt there will be more...

Thanks for the welcome.
I've discovered a serious problem with this site though.
It has forced me to start checking through all my wood to see what might be useful in a bass. While that may sound like fun, there is over 2,000 board feet here.
Just have to see what develops I guess.

Another angle you might want to checkout is the famed Wishbasses. They are apparently fundamentally good and highly unique basses that are sold real cheap and they often have some unfinished aspect to them. Not sure I really get it, but search on Wishbass.

OK, I'll give that a whirl and see what comes up. Thanks much.
