Guitard in the house!

Hi folks. I got here by following a reference to the roundwound/flatwound thread I found on another forum (TGP).

For years now I have recorded bass tracks on my songs, but I am a guitar player for 43 plus years (age 55). After several years recording at home, I am finally starting to be convincing on bass. And I find that I love playing bass.

Playing guitar for so long, I find I am getting bored talking about guitar on the other forums. My interest in bass is growing. So this seems like a good place to see how you guys think. Oddly, in all my years experience, I can't say I have ever sat down and talked bass with a bassist I played with.

Anyway, I hope to learn much here.

I've played guitar for many years as well. Actually, a lot of us have. Still, those of us with a "past" tend to fly under the radar here. Welcome to TB!

A little background...

Hey, thats how I got started playing bass. I wanted to record bass tracks for some original stuff my cousin and I (He on drums/vocals, me guitar /recording) had done for years. I had a Yamaha electric piano and I made it work, then I got tired of that big thing taking up too much room, and traded it for an Ibanez Sound Gear and a little US made Ampeg 12" 50 watt combo amp. Then my church started a praise band, and they needed a bass player. I reluctantly volunteered, having never played bass in public (or guitar for that matter). It worked out just fine and became a weekly thing for over a year. Then the pastor left and the praise band "disbanded". Oh well. But by this time I had sold the Ibanez and bought a Fender Deluxe Jazz - a great guitar. And of course more amps - a Trace Elliot 500 watter, then an Ampeg 4ohm 2 x 10, then a Heritage 410, lately a GK 1001 2 x 12 combo amp. All this because my buddy and I formed a rock n roll band to play covers locally for fun. We had a blast all last summer playing at a dock and later a street dance and wedding. This year more of the same. One addition - 5 string Sting Ray. Another awesome guitar! I find I have to stick with one or the other mainly or my fingers dont go where they need to (right hand).
This is a great forum and a lot of fun!

Yea, the more I record bass, the more I think it'd be fun to play bass in a band. I subbed on bass once back in the very early 70s.
