Hiya, folks!
I finally decided to join the TB community, after I found out my true path in music. I've had a bit of identity crisis with music when I quit guitar due to lack of motivation after 7 years of playing. I scrambled about with piano/keyboards and vocals for a long time but then I settled on bass because I was made the bass player in all my bands and I noticed that there's a real lack of skilled bassists around here. I gave the bass a second shot (I've also played it earlier) and this time it hit the goal way deep!
A bit of myself.. I'm 20 years old up-and-coming musician from Helsinki, Finland. I've played music since I was 12 years old, starting with guitar and been writing music since I was 15. I've played and become familiar with different kinds of music, mostly I've been playing metal (my first love in music) but lately I've been getting more and more into jazz and fusion, r'n'b/soul and really heavily on classical music. I'm applying to music schools next year, hopes are high are that I get in and finally can study the profession I love (earlier I studied to become a youth and leisure instructor).
I really don't listen to bass players much, I'm more interested in the overall musical picture. Things I appreciate in musicians are musicality and a great technique to support the music. Some of my favorite musicians include: (bassists) Billy Sheehan, Jeff Berlin, Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson (guitarists) Guthrie Govan, Michael Romeo, Greg Howe, Mattias Eklundh, (keyboardists/pianists) Jordan Rudess, Michel Camilo, Chick Corea, Sviatoslav Richter, Glenn Gould, (composers) Phillip Glass, Frank Zappa, J.S. Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Claude Debussy, Danny Elfman etc. |
