Hey all!
My name is Jared Baum. I'm 20 years old, and I've been playing bass for about 6 years. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, and I've had a lot of exposure to the music scene here in NYC both as a kid and as an adult. I currently play bass in a fusion band called Phenotype. We've only been active for a year and are still getting started, but check us out at:

A lot of my technique is based in jazz, funk, and world music, although I don't consider myself a true player of any of these, instead opting for a fusion sound and trying to blend all of these.
As an instrumental musician, my style is very melodic. I'll often try to weave complex melodies and/or rhythms into the work I compose, while maintaining something that's easy to follow and fun to listen to.
Growing up, my biggest influences were Flea, Chris Squire, Roger Waters, and Paul McCartney. As I got older, I began to listen to bassists like Avishai Cohen, Charles Mingus, Victor Wooten, Bootsy Collins, Jaco Pastorius, Larry Graham, James Jamerson, Les Claypool, and Sting.
The bass I play the most often is a Yamaha BB1000MA (Michael Anthony Signature) with D'Addario Nickel-wound strings for a very melodic and deep sound. I also occasionally use a Squier Fretless (I was surprised! Squier actually made a good bass for once!), also with D'addario Nickel-wound strings (usually the lightest string being a .40) I'm also an amateur double-bass player, although not much has come out of that yet.
Talk to me if you want to know more!
Peace!
