I've been reading these forums for a while and finally decided to sign up. Why? Well, I've been playing guitar and singing for about 20 years (various bands, solo acoustic stuff) and have decided to dive into the bass world.
I don't actually own a bass yet - after reading on here I'm probably leaning towards one the Squier Vintage Modified models, though I haven't tried any of them out yet. Will probably head out this weekend and do some browsing.
Looking forward to interacting with you more once I make my purchase.
Welcome to TalkBass, Ian. I think you'll enjoy yourself here. Might want to keep the guitar-playing on the QT, though...
The Vintage Modified models are very nice for the money, and the Classic Vibe series are even better (by a large margin), for only $50 more, on average. I kick myself quite often for selling my Classic Vibe, and nearly as often for selling my Vintage Modified. No, they aren't as good as my current bass, but the difference isn't nearly as great as the difference in price would indicate. Don't let the haters talk you out of a Squier, they are outstanding basses for the money. They quality control isn't as great as it could be, so be sure to try before you buy (or be willing to send it back if you buy online). When you get a good one, it's a great one, so hang on to it!
Again, welcome! and enjoy.
