Hello everybody - I have been playing bass off and on for 15+ years. I started out with a POS no-name short scale 4-string, moved up to a Yamaha...then drifted away from bass for a while as life got in the way. Came back to it a while later, bought an Ibanez and played in a band (all-original material, some of it written by me) called Turpentine in Atlanta for a couple of years. Now I live in Maine and play a Dean fretless 4-string EAB, which is pretty good, but I think my next move is to the full monty, a 3/4 DB. I'm just a little concerned as to how I am going to transport it. My father in law is a guitar/mandolin/banjo player and we jam regularly on ragtime, bluegrass, blues, and a little jazz. I also attend a monthly acoustic jam session which encompasses most of those genres plus some country and rock 'n roll music. Lately I have become more and more interested in really studying jazz, which is part of the reason for my interest in the DB. Bass will likely always be just recreation for me, but I do take musicianship seriously and am trying to constantly force myself to learn and play things I normally would not, in the hopes of learning something. I occasionally get motivated and write a piece of music on Garage Band; maybe I'll post some of it. My inspirations are Tony Levin, Paul Chambers, Viktor Krauss, Rob Wasserman, Pino Palladino and I'm forgetting some more. Okay, so that's me, I'm done talking. |
