Hello

Hello, just wanted to introduce myself. I am a new bass player starting late, 37 y/o. My wife bought me an Ibanez SR300M for xmas. I already play guitar off and on for several years. Currently, I am trying to learn from Hal Leonards Bass Method Book 1, Bass Aerobics, and Funk Bass. I split my practicing time up between those three books and at the end play some simple songs that I can find tab for from Ultimate Guitar.

So far I am getting more enjoyment from the bass than any of my 6 strings that I have. If you have any advice, tips or input please feel free to help a new guy out. Thanks and looking forward to learning from everyone here.

Paul

Welcome to the party. FYI this not the right place for this kind of post so the mods might move it but no worries

Hey Tex, welcome. We're a fun crowd of bass players and bass lovers. As far as your first post, we have an unofficial rule here:
No pics, no bass.

So show us some pics of that maple Soundgear! We want to see it.

Welcome! ...and start saving your money. When I started here, I'd had one bass for 28 years. A quick glance at my profile will demonstrate the effects of TB. Good luck with your GAS!

Welcome.

Three great books, good choices. I use them with my students often.

Dig in, enjoy the deep end.

That maple neck looks awesome with that color. This may be your first bass, but after being on this site, I can guarantee you it won't be your last (for better or for worse). Welcome to TB.

Welcome aboard! A man after my own heart - got my first bass at 37 (just turned 39) but had never played a stringed instrument before.

I'm not much for giving tips and pointers - too new myself - but the biggest thing is to just keep playing! Read through the forums here, there is a TON of info.

Good luck!!

You probably haven't even scratched the surface of TB yet, my friend. When I first joined, this cat... Stumbo http://www.talkbass.com/forum/member.php?u=110359, directed me to his sig for about 2 million useful links. If there's something you wanna know, he's got a link for it. More useful than doing a search. Good luck!
