This guy actually got me started playing bass … how many years ago now? 
I used to play one of those things with the six skinny strings and short necks and Slim would play bass with me on any number of occasions back in the day … back then we used to play a lot of those open mic blues jams where maybe 16 guitar players would show up
(me being one) and Slim was the house bass player at one of them, if I remember correctly and on some nights he might be the only bass player there, so he told me to go buy a bass and come down and help him out, so I did and that’s how it all started for me on bass. I quite literally learned to play the bass live in front of people on Beale St.
In Memphis pretty much everyone knows everyone and it’s not unusual to actually have someone like Slim do a whole nite with another band if a player can’t make it to a gig we have all done it.
