Hello! Guitar player moving into Bass playing

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings from sunny southern Wisconsin!
I've been playing guitar for about 20 years, and while I'm not very proficient at it, I can hold my own in a jam situation.

I've owned a really bad no name P-bass copy for many years, until I finally gave up on it. 5 years ago I bought an Ibanez AEB-30 to play around with, but I never really got into playing bass very much.

Until now.

Recently, I bought an SX SJB-75 Jazz bass B-Stock from Rondo (at $99, I couldn't resist!) 'cuz I've always wanted a jazz bass. Within a week I also scored a Jay Turser JTB-2B violin bass from ebay, 'cuz I've always wanted a "Beatle" bass. Having satisfied my G.A.S. for a bass guitar, I'm currently awaiting the arrival (at G.C.) of a Marshall MB30 bass amp I ordered. I've been playing through a guitar PodXT Live using the bass amp models, and it's great for practicing.
Since I'm pretty much a beginner, I'm satisfied with the equipment I have, it seems to be pretty good quality and I'm having a lot of fun learning something new. I've been downloading as much bass related info as I can regarding theory, scales, and just plain old play-along tabs and audio or video. I wish this stuff was around when I was trying to learn guitar!
I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to join in and participate, as this seems to be a very active forum with a lot of helpful people.

I'll post some pics of my basses when I can. I could post pics of my guitars, but this IS a bass forum! Here's one I can show ya:

Not the best quality picture, but you get the idea.
Looking forward to hanging out a learning more!
Cheers!
