I was brought to you all by the way of being asked to be in the metal band HOOGA. I origanally was a drummer, then my son slowly took over my set. I then started playing the guitar so I could teach him to play with a band. I then taught his freind to play what i was playing and "wham" we had a band. it was amazing how quick they picked it up so i kept working with them and before i knew it we had our first show in a battle of the bands. we got forth place out of 20. "yay"
the catch is they are 15 and Im 35. after helping the kids beat up on the so called big boy bands I started getting phone calls to join the ranks of my fellow peers [guys my own age]. and as fate had it one of my favorite local bands called, but they wanted me to play bass. I really wanted to play for them so I went out and bought a traben array. didn't like it at all. I broke down and picked up a warwick 5 corvette standard and love it.
This is my help needed part.
#1 I broke the 5th string and tryed A DR long neck on it but it's not at all what i'm looking for. i'm planning on changing all the stings out and i do like the sound of the black labels that it came with but they are my fingers. before I drop another $40. what is going to be the best stings to get a sound like the warwicks but not the bite to the flesh. what do you suggest?
#2 after changing the string I have terrible fret buzz on the 5th, but it is up and down the entire neck. I assume it's from the string but there was a slight buzz before, but only on a couple frets. I raised the action but it did nothing. and do not think i should be messing around with the truss rod myself. I wouldn't be in as much trouble if I could find A good set up guy here in utah but I took my taben to 3 differnt guys that always made it worse. anyone good here from utah???
The best part of all this is I found this sight. this looks to be the best asset A bassist can have. if anyone can help me out that would be fantastic. I have already dropped over $3000 into my new habbit so every $40 and $50 dollars more starts to really hurt.
Thanks, and A new member for life
