well, this is apparently where i tell you a bit about myself and how i ended up here. when i got my first job, i went out and bought myself a cheap acoustic guitar, and had learned about twelve chords by the time my twenty-first birthday rolled around a few months later. my father went out and found a second-hand bass and an amp as a present. he was thoughtful like that.
i learned the very basics, but i never got particularly far, partly because i knew nobody else who would practise with me, partly because it annoyed my family. in particular one of my family members complained "you don't have to play the same sequence of notes over and over again, you know!" then i went away to work as a camp counsellor and met other people who were interested in playing, and actually played as part of a band in front of an audience for the first and only time (it was "common people", if you're interested).
and then i met someone and moved from england to america with about twelve hours' notice and my bass was put into the loft of my former house, where it still is, by my landlord. i am told that i can pick it up whenever i'm back in the country. that was six years ago and i have forgotten what little i once knew.
anyway, i have been talking about getting back into it and apparently i am getting a bass as a present sometime soon. so obviously i am keen to refresh my memory and learn more. a friend of mine who plays bass professionally told me this was the best place on the net to talk about bass things, so here i am. hello. |
