Cool Hello from the Netherlands

Hello everyone,
Here a small introduction of me. As mentioned in the title I'm from the Netherlands and my name is Francisca; and I have been playing the bass since summer 2009. I also play drums, but the locations we play doesn't always have the room for it. Previously I would just do percussion instead, but our bassist left the band and so I asked if I could try and play bass in his stead.

At first I limited myself by playing the root notes only; just to get my bearings on the bass - then after a while I started to add some rhythm to it. I think having played drums previously helped because things developed rather smoothly. After a few months of playing bass on a loaner I decided it was time for my own bass. So I traded a guitar of mine (a red sunburst electric acoustic SX guitar) and with some extra money saved I bought myself a Schecter Diamond Bass (Stiletto custom 4). I'm still saving up for a decent bass amp; right now I'm using a kustom amp that I got for my Ibanez

I'm having a lot of fun learning and playing the bass and I've been looking for anything that can help me get better - on and off the internet. I also am going to take lessons at our local music school, and right now I'm waiting *impatiently* to hear back from them. I'm really determined to become the best bass player I can be.

So far things are going well. I even had people thank me after a gig; me! Of all people. So that was a nice change

Oh and when I say gig: please keep in mind we're just an amateur band and we play for fun. Though sometimes we actually get paid a bit and that money is saved to invest back into the growing of our lil band.

Well that's about it ... for now ;-)

Thanks!

And I'll check out the link - last semi-local forum I signed up was dead.

ps: Technically I'm 3/4 Dutch, 1/4 Indonesian

edit: Ah haha ... not a forum, it's a group. Goodie ... I finally found a gang even I can join.

Hello FRANR! Just wanted to say hi and thanks for those links you posted. I hope your practice or training sessions are going well. I'm just getting off work, but I'll go over some scales and fingering before I go to sleep. This new job of learning the bass is pretty exciting so far. I wish I had more time to practice, but for right now I will make the best of it. Take care of yourself and keep driving on.
Best wishes!!!
