Hello. New here and new to bass

Actually I'm a drummer. I'm 40 years old and I've been playing drums for my whole life. I've played in regularly gigging bands for over 20 years now.

I've been in the same cover band for about 9 years now. My dad is our bass player and we have two guitar players/singers. One of which I've been playing with for over 20 years now and the other for over 12 years. Needless to say, we all know each other very well.

A little over a year ago the guitar player I've been playing with for over 20 years started making his own guitars. So he made me a guitar. A really nice tele style in a blue stain that fades to sort of a sea green in the middle. So I thought if I'm going to have this nice guitar I might as well learn to play it so I started learning a few chords. I'm still in the beginning stages but it's coming along and I'm really enjoyng it.

Then I got to thinking that it'd be fun to learn bass as well, especially since bass and drums are so connected in a band setting. Our other guitar player is an amazing bass player (it was his original instrument) and my dad plays bass so I've easy access to people who can teach me.

My dad leaves a little amp at my house for practice so all I've got to do is pick up a bass and I'm good to go. I'm really looking forward to learning a new instrument and I thought this forum would be a great source of knowledge. I'm a long time member of a couple of drum forums and they've been a great asset over the years.

Anyway, sorry to be so long-winded in my introduction but I just wanted everyone to know why I'm here and that I'm a complete newbie. Thanks.

Greg

Welcome! Bass and drums are so intertwined it seems that this will be a natural for you. I have always thought that I should have been a drummer instead.

This is a terrific forum - you can learn a lot by just watching. Have fun!
