Hello, from an old rocker

I'm a guitar player who sometimes plays bass on my recordings. I've been getting back into bass- recording tracks at home for my new album, my first album. It's a lot of fun. I really enjoy playing and inventing bass parts. I've got a Fender Jazz bass, Noel Redding signature edition. Made in Japan. I like it. Today, I just replaced my round wounds with TI jazz flat wounds, a few minutes ago. My technique isn't that great. I play with my thumb and I often can't avoid getting string noises, squeals, as I move my left hand along the strings. I'm hoping the flat wounds help. As far as tone goes, I like un-bright, like John Paul Jones on Ramble On, or a lot of McCartney stuff, or bass playing that stays in the background, but can be melodic and focused. I'm getting into mixing and recording. I record directly into my Pacifica or UA 710. I found this forum when I was searching for info about bass strings. Good to be here!
