Hello from SoCal

Hi everyone, my name is Brian and I'm new to the forum, but not to playing bass. I've been playing for ~15 years in lots of different bands of all sorts of styles ranging from traditional jazz to modern rock. I went to Cal State San Bernardino, CA. where I studied music and got my B.A. from in '01.

I have owned lots of gear through the years, but now I stick to my precious all-OG 1969 Fender Jazz which I bought from the Hollywood GC Vintage Room back in '02. I also play an all-original (broken headstock but professionally repaired) '64 Gibson T-Bird that was given to me by a close friend and guitarist in my old bands Cardiac Black and Second Sun.

I play through a Mesa M2000 amp w/ SWR 4x10 and 1x15 cabs and have a Ampeg B2R backup amp. That's about it, just wanted to introduce myself to this cool forum!

Hi Brian,
Welcome to TB. Lots to learn here, but with you being an experienced player, you can add your 2 cents too. I tried to Map-Quest your location (Brian Van Haringa) but was unsuccessful.

I didn't know you could map quest a name! I probably don't show up because I live in a mountain town near Big Bear called Lake Arrowhead, CA. and the post office doesn't even deliver mail to our houses, they give us PO boxes at the post office, haha. Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to learning and sharing my knowledge with the group!

Welcome Brian. Looks like your house is pretty close to an active landslide area. Across the street, maybe? (I'm the staff geologist at TB.)

Welcome. Was Bob Knop in the music department back in 2001?

Yeah I used to live in Rimforest which has had some pretty big landslides over the past 10 years. A huge section of road even fell down the cliff. Now I'm on the north side of Hwy 18 (Rim of the World Hwy) so no landslides to worry about anymore.

No, but that's funny you asked because I was just talking to a friend tonight as a matter of fact who goes to Cal State and I asked him who the jazz band leader is nowadays and he said his name is Bob Knop. Never met him, but my buddy said he was very cool.
