As they use to say...

I'm Adrian, that's me.
I'm 18 and have been wanting to start playing an instrument for a very long time.
My parents don't seem to like that idea very much.
I have been wanting to learn to play the bass for some years, I've seriously began thinking about it for 1-2 years ago, before that it was to play piano.
But I didn't get music lessons, because I was first suppose to learn recording techniques, but the teacher didn't think one pupil was enough, and said it so late, that all the schedules where already done. So no piano for me... damn that teacher!

Anyway, I began saving for a bass, I decided to get one with both P-style pickup and J-style, since I didn't know what I liked nor what I wanted to play, other than almost everything. I got myself a Squier because it was the best sound one I could afford, and a friend of mine who is a good bassist had one of those before he got this Yamaha Bass.

I don't go to a teacher on a musical school, so I haven't began playing really serious yet. But I play with a music teacher on the youth house, but those lessons aren't as serious as the ones on music schools. I guess it was good for me, because I didn't lose the interest to learn playing bass.

But now I'm going to be more serious about my playing, and I'm going to learn to play the bass while standing up now. I've got a good left hand finger playing, but it's damn hard to keep it that way when standing up. But I'll practise... I'm thinking that if I can play when standing up, it would make me more motivated, playing in a band and sitting on a chair all the times seems strange.

Oh well, that's my current thoughts... RIP Jaco...

Welcome neighbour!

Be careful not to get so serious about playing the bass that it isn't fun anymore. (if I may be bold enough to give advice on anything) Play the stuff you like, study the things that tickle your interest.
I myself had a period when I tried to get very serious, and play like I thought was "right" according to how the pros played. Now I see that this took away both the freedom and joy of making music. That's why I now say "let's play what is on our hears". At least on my amateur level this seems good.

Have fun!
