Hey Y'all,
I finally got around to surfing over here and I'm excited about the wealth of information and tips available in this place!
So here's some of my deets:
1) I'm soon-to-be 44, been married to the same musician-wife (she teaches piano/plays organ at church) for 18 years so she is patient, loving, and tolerates my bass addiction.
2) My son is 6 (needs a short scale bass starter soon me thinks) and my daughter is 3.
3) I've owned some 5vers in the past, but currently I'm sticking with just four bangers (although if the right Lakland 5ver came my way, I'd be sweatin!) . I'm happy with either P or J style depending on my mood and the gig. Right now I'm hanging with a 57 Fender Reissue P (standard rounds til I figure which flats to use); a Skyline Scheff (strung with TI flats); a US Lakland Hollowbody (Roto Nylon Tapewounds); and a Gibson Thunderbird (strung with TI Jazz Rounds). I've also got a couple of basses on order, so I'll be rotating somebody out of the house soon.
4) My gigs: I teach high school music full-time, choir and guitar. I play bass and am in charge of the worship bands at my church for three services. I play in a classic rock cover band (going on 15 years now), in a jazz quartet
http://www.myspace.com/oneflightupjazz, and I sub for blues bands around town.
5) Some of my favorite bassists (in no particular order): Mingus, Daryl Jones, Jaco, Geddy, Chris Squire, Paul Simonon, Paul Weller, Geezer Butler, Lemmy.... there's more.
Great to be here!
Dave
