hello y'all

new member, new bass (peavey ntb 4 string). after struggling to learn guitar for 2 years plus (made some progress but not enough to my liking) i was ready to quit. first instinct when i took up guitar was actually to go with a bass but the plan was for both my son and i to take guitar lessons..never worked out.we both took lessons but not together so no motivation there. to be honest, as far back as i can remember, i always picked up and hummed the bass parts of my favorite songs..so, maybe i'm meant to be a bassist, not a guitarist..swallowed my pride and picked up a copy of bass guitar for dummies today to get going on the bass.. any tips and wisdom appreciated...i'm 46 this month and just happy to be a basement player learning how to play in the background of my favorite tunes...too old..and not enough time to go pro

Welcome

Tip 1: Listen to the kick drum.
Tip 2: Listen to the song.

Take off, eh!

#1 we're all supposed to know; #2 is to me, eually important. A pro once told me 'Don't play over the lyrics.' I also mean listen to the dynamics of the song. You/we can have a huge influence on how 'big' or 'small the music can be.
