Help needed.

Am looking at a 5-string active bass but there are so many between £300 and £400 and recommendations would be great, cheers.

I would say a Lakland Skyline 55-01, they run around 750$ American.

Sweet bass for the price, they have a great B string that is not floppy or dull. The Skyline series has been known for the most consistent qualtiy while being mass produced.
