Hi everyone,
I wanted to start of by introducing myself. I'm Mike and this is my story.
When I was 18, I picked up my first bass, it is was an Ibanez ? (model eludes me, it was white though). I took a few lessons and joined a band. In a nut shell, we sucked. Being young and impatient, I eventually sold the Ibanez to a friend who was more dedicated than I was. That was in the mid-80s.
In the mid-late 90s, married with a son. I decided to give it a second try. Again, I revisited the Ibanez in the form of an SG400 that I had picked up at Norm's music in Bklyn, NY. I kept this one for awhile and tried to practice as much as I could, but life just kept throwing me curve balls. I eventually sold the SG400 a year and a half age, much to the surprise and disappointment of my wife. My heart though, was not into it.
Fast-foward to the present. I now live in PA and enjoy my life as a stay@home daddy. I am taking care of my 11 year old son who is wonderful, but had been diagnosed with autism several years ago. It's a tough pill to swallow, but my wife and I both agree that it is better to have one of us at home for him. I also have a fiesty little minx who is the apple of my eye. Being daddy is great , but at time I felt as though something was missing.
One day while the kids were at school, I decided to take a ride to a local music shop in my area. I said to myself, I was only going to look. Well, as I browsed this wonderful shop. I found myself surrounded by some wonderfull instuments, Fenders mostly. For years I have always wanted to try them out, but felt that they were out of my reach. After a good 2 hours, of playing and talking to the owner. Who by the way was a huge bass player. He was great, he took the time to educate me and show me what a person who really knew how to play could make such a fine instrument sound.
After a good period of time, I could not see myself leaving the shop without bass and amp in hand. I also decided to pick up where I left off years ago. The shop offered lessons with some well respected instructors (I looked into it). So I signed up and decided to start from the begining. There is an old saying "Life begins at 40" I'm happily testing out that theory.
Anyway, a few weeks later and this is what a casual trip to the music shop can do.
BTW, thanks to the guys who help me in choosing my new MIM Classic '60 Jazz Bass It goes really well with my Ampeg rocket 100.
