Hey there !
I've been lurking for a while now, I believe it's high time I registered on these forums.
So, erm... introduction thread, huh ? Alright !
My name's Jerome, I'm 19 and I'm french. Obviously, I play bass guitar. I've been at it for three/four years now, although I've taken quite a few breaks away from it.
I'd tried other instruments before, including the guitar, but I never got hooked to any of them until I tried the bass. My uncle, who's a great pianist (mind you, the guy's played for more than 30 years) gave me an old bass which was basically sitting around gathering dust, and a nice bass amp to go along with it.
At first, it was great. I would play a couple of hours each day for like three months. Then, for some reason, I stopped playing regularly. By then, I'd only play for one hour once a month maybe.
I started going to college two years ago. I started playing again, and I really enjoyed it. I decided to go to the nearest shop and get myself a new bass, because the one I was given wasn't that great (a Chinese replica of Fender's P-Bass). I spent the whole afternoon trying out bass guitars until I found the one I wanted to buy (and could afford to, because there was an amazing jazz bass, but its cost was way too high for me) : a Cort B4. Great bass in that price range, or so I thought (and still think).
After that, I'd play regularly again, but not as much as I did at first. 30 minutes sessions each day, tops.
Six months ago, though, I thought playing deserved more time. Since then, I've played for 1 to 4 hours each day, and I enjoyed every second of it. I became more and more interested in improv and such (as opposed to playing bass tabs found on the internet).
It's been a pleasure ! Creating bass lines for bassless tracks, adding new basslines to greats tracks, etc...
I haven't been able to play with other much, though. And the few times I've had the opportunity to, it was hard at first, but quite enjoyable nonetheless.
So, yeah, here I am. Proud bassist, although still a beginner. I'm currently waiting for UPS to deliver a set of strings I ordered. Flatwound strings, it's gonna be so great to play with those !
That was my "bass heavy" sort of biography. But that's not what I do all day. I'm currently a third year student at college (trying to get the french equivalent of a bachelor's degree and then a master's degree in
LCE Anglais, which stands for English Literature & Civilization). On top of the bass playing, I spend my time watching TV series, listening to music (mostly Rock, Jazz, Folk and Funk) and going out with my friends, which usually involves drinking quite a lot of alcoholic beverages

.
I believe that's all. I think I'm gonna enjoy my stay here on these forums. You guys seem like a great bunch of passionate and knowledgeable musicians !
