Alright, well I'm 14 years old. I know it sounds young but my entire life as long as I can remember has involved a musical instrument. I have played guitar (officially) since I was four years old and got my first guitar. It was a Kasino 1/3 scale electric and I was hooked immediately. My dad has been a musician for most of his life and from the age of 15 until now has played at various local venues for various band playing lead guitar. Although my heart, soul, and focus is in the good ol' six string I recently took an interest in bass. In May of this year (soon to be last) I got an Ibanez 4 string bass for my birthday. Because of a decade of experience in standard guitars I was a fast learner. In fact, my first two songs in my four stringed repertoire were "My Friend Of Misery" by Metallica (a nice little stretch for those who don't know) and "Higher Ground" (still working on that one, lol). So I have recently started to really become fascinated with really groovy funky bass and really want to expand my skills as a bassist. So I'll be asking questions and making some friends (I'm very easy to get along with). So, that's about it, see you on the Help board wherever that may be.

Wow, that's pretty awesome that you got started so early, yet you're still really into it. Most people I meet who started early viewed the instrument as this chore and never got all that proficient. Are you playing with anybody right now? If you're into groovy, funky stuff (like all bassists really are) then the most important thing you can do is to A. Practice with a metronome (debatable) and B. Play with a drummer. See you around.

yeah im gonna grab a metronome with my birthday haul. thanks for the info. and no im not playing WITH anybody but when i get my chops up im probably gonna go out as a bassist for a little side project. and my dads a laid back rockstar, so he never really pushed me into guitar he just kinda presented the opportunity and when i got hooked feuled my habit with gear and guitars. and as far as a drummer, i got 2 boxes both with drummers inside and will definitely look into that. i guess im so used to being able to pick out the guitar timing i never considered how much a reference could help me with some funky bass runs. thanks a lot for your bro! see you around man.
