New to forum....my name is Charlie. I am a guitar/mandolin player, mostly bluegrass, but Country & Gospel also. Just purchased my first stand-up bass...it is a Czech 1/2 size. I played it the first time this last weekend at a 3 day jam in Eureka Springs, AR...had a great time..played...um,,,OK I guess! haha my first twi fingers on right hand are BURNING! haha gotta find a better way to do that! I am trying to figure out how to date my bass. It has a sticker inside it that says "Made in Czechlosyvalkia" (or however you spell it) and has another sticker that has a date on it of 1968 from a music store in Pittsburgh, PA. Someone has scratched PGH Public School # 208 on the back. So I am guessing it was a school bass. It is pretty beat up...but that adds character I think! It sounds good, and the other bassist there liked the sound. Of course they all have a better Idea for strings. I guess everyon likes something different. I hope to learn to play it then teach my wife. I can play an electric bass, and have a couple of those..but it is different playing the doghouse...I guess ya'll all know that though! I think I am gonna like it. I didn't get to play much guitar or mandolin....everyone needed a bass player. There were about 80 people there, and only three bass players..including me...so that would be really 2 and 1/2 bass players! Looking foreward to getting some info and ideas from thids board!
