My name's Steven... I'm 16 and have only been playing bass for about a few months now, guitar before that, but I enjoy this instrument much more. I mostly listen to progressive rock and jazz. My favorite artists include The Grateful Dead, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, Pharoah Sanders and Magma. My favorite bass players are Tony Levin, Chris Squire, Phil Lesh and Jannick Top. I wish to learn jazz technique and theory for electric bass and apply it to a progressive rock act someday.
I'm mostly here to learn, I don't know much about the instrument and would really love to understand it better and hopefully there are people on this site willing to help me out. I've basically just been learning songs for a while, and I'm getting good at that, but I think of myself as pretty horrible at figuring anything out by ear or improvising mostly because I've no idea of bass theory, or how to improvise over chord structures and whatnot. I love music more than anything else I can think of, though, and playing it is the greatest high one can get so I hope to reach high skill levels one day.
Looks like a good site, glad to be here.
