Hi all! and Corin Long memorial concert

Hello bass players,

I have just joined this forum because my daughter Louise has taken up the double bass and because I wanted to tell you all about a memorial concert I am organising in memory of my late brother, Corin Long, who was principal bass in the RPO and who died tragically in a diving accident in March this year. Many of you will know him I am sure, and I am wondering if any of you (plus musical friends of yours who may have worked with Corin) would like to play in the concert, (solo, duet, ensemble or just as part of the whole orchestra). I am aiming for 5th April 2008 at Corin's old high school in Birstall, Leicester. This school is also where our mother (who died in 2004) was head of music for many years: The concert is in her memory too and there will be old students of hers playing aswell as professional musicians known to Corin. If anyone is interested, please post here or contact me directly (vbalkwill@aol.com) with details of what you would like to play and with whom. The whole orchestra aspect will be everyone attending playing 3 pieces together that were favourite school orchestra pieces of our mother's (Dambusters march, land of hope and glory and the great gates of Kiev)! I hope many of you will be interested in coming. Money raised will go to 'The Corin Long Memorial fund' to help music college students in financial hardship.
