Hi I'm new to this place.

I've been playing bass for 5 years. I'm not Les Claypool but this instrument is a big part of my life. It's nice to see a website for similar people.
I live in San Marcos, Texas, I am 19, and I study at Texas State.

Oh and I'm very influenced by Eric Wilson, Peanut, Les Claypool, Geddy Lee, John Paul Jones, Victor Wooten, and Carlos D. I have been playing for a while but I never picked up slapping. It's just something that doesn't click in my head right now but I plan to get over it at some point. Never been in a band, but have played my bass at parties with my friends. Anybody else have Eric Wilson first on their list?

First, no, but he's waay up there... and I think he's one of the most underated bassists of all time. I love the feel he puts behind what he does, and while played out... I still think santeria is one of the groovingest basslines I ever heard. First time I really listened to that I was blown away. One of my favorite songs to play, too.

Welcome.

And a heads up. Stay out of the basses forum because there's a disease going round those parts. It's a chronic, some think incurable diseast.... and it will wind up costing you lots and lots of money.

Enjoy your stay. There's lots of good people here, and lots of knowledge floating around. Coupla idiots too, but they add to the fun.

Santeria is a good example of his feel but I think the line for Dont Push is probably my favorite.
Sublime in general is one of my favorite bands. I feel like they had that element that was present in all those great bands throughout history.
I didn't understand that last part? Thanks for the welcome!
